MITACS and XLSCOUT commence joint project on Big Data and Automation

MITACS and XLSCOUT announced today a joint project that will give XLSCOUT’s immense AI-enabled technology database for use in academic, industrial and corporate research. “Toronto, Ontario – MITACS, the Canadian not-for-profit organization which is focused on sponsoring innovation in research. Over the next few years MITACS will provide assistance to conduct research on the largest AI-enabled database in the world, thanks to their partnership with XLSCOUT. XLSCOUT’s dataset includes more than 130 million patents and more than 200 million research publications. The project will use this unique database resource to further develop Artificial Intelligence tools designed to function as super experts .

The research team is being led by Professor Katarina Grolinger from Western University – Canada. Professor Grolinger has over 20 years of experience in the field and has published numerous articles on the subjects of machine learning and data management. The project is being further supported by SOSCIP (Southern Ontario Smart Computing Innovation Platform) and the advanced computing resources they have available. The combination of such a large dataset from XLSCOUT, the fastest computing resources available from SOSCIP, and the experienced research team led by Professor Grolinger working with MITACS, will provide singular insights and improve proprietary algorithms designed for research automation. These tools in turn will benefit patent professionals, senior managers, and law firms as they attempt to keep their finger on the pulse of innovative new products.
