Based on the GXTI designed by JPO, XLSCOUT and NGB collaborated on a dashboard that could contribute significantly to Green Transformation (GX) Technologies

One of the best ways to identify GX Technologies trends, as well as to share company information about GX-related initiatives and the effects of climate change on business, is through the analysis of patent information.

Therefore, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) came up with a Green Technologies Inventory (GXTI). The GXTI has 5 categories of GX Technologies (gxA-gxE) and 4 different ways to look at the information (gxY). This dashboard provides a birds-eye view of these green technologies.

XLSCOUT is on a mission to help companies track GX trends to compare companies’ strengths in terms of their efforts towards the five major Green Transformation Technologies. With our technology & competitive dashboards, we are giving organizations a medium to get actionable insights to analyze the five major GX Technologies.

Mapping Green Transformation Technologies to the Patent Literature

The GXTI consists of three levels of hierarchy as follows:

Large classification (consisting of 5 perspectives and 4 transversal perspectives common to those perspectives)
Medium classification (consisting of 32 technologies)
Small classification (consisting of 86 technologies)

The Level 2 Category and the Level 3 Category are individual technologies in each Level 1 category. The Level 3 categories illustrate what specific technologies are involved in the Level 2 Category.

For each GX technology, the JPO provides a patent search formula. In order to understand the population, the patent search formula from the JPO was used for each category. Automatic classifications were created based on the patent search formula and on the relationships among the three classifications.

Such a detailed mapping of technology provides deep insights into the GX-related efforts toward the five major Green Transformation Technologies. The GXTI dashboard helps companies search for patents related to green technologies. By using the GXTI, a company can see how many patent applications they have in each technology category, and compare their strengths with other companies. This information can be useful in planning business and patent strategies.
